2018-2019 Audition Information

 

The Plano Band is one of the finest high school bands in the country. Friendships formed through the band and the experiences gained through performances will make a lasting impression on your life.The Plano Band staff greatly anticipates the return of its current juniors and looks forward to welcoming sophomores from Vines and Clark High Schools!! We encourage everyone to join the AWESOME Wildcat Band!

GENERAL AUDITION INFORMATION AND FORMS

 

All auditions will be held at Plano Senior High School at the scheduled times listed below.  ALL STUDENTS MUST AUDITION AT THE SPECIFIED DATE AND TIME FOR THEIR INSTRUMENT.  In order to uphold the integrity and fairness of the audition process, no additional or alternate auditions will be possible. The audition atmosphere will be as comfortable as possible.  We want YOU to be a part of the award-winning Plano Band.

 

 

PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING COMPLETED FORMS (HARD COPIES) TO YOUR AUDITION: 

           

   1) INSTRUMENT USAGE FORM & PayPAMS confirmation OR $85 check**(If Renting PISD Instrument)**

 

   2) SECTION LEADER APPLICATION **(if applying)**

 

 

Prepared Etudes

 

Each player will be required to perform two excerpts for his/her given instrument.  Please adhere to the tempo markings provided on your excerpts. 

 

 

Scales & Arpeggios

 

In addition to the prepared excerpts, each student should be prepared to perform all 12 major scales & arpeggios and full range chromatic scale by MEMORY.  The scale & arpeggio pattern that is required for the audition will be included in your downloadable audition packet. Scales should be performed staccato ascending and slurred descending.  Arpeggios should be separated ascending and descending.   Scales & Arpeggios should be performed at quarter note = 120.

 

MAXIMUM CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN FOR BEAUTY OF TONE IN ALL REGISTERS, CORRECT ARTICULATIONS, STEADY PULSE & CORRECT RHYTHMS AT SPECIFIED TEMPOS, CONSISTENT INTONATION, AND MUSICAL NUANCE.

JAZZ ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS

 

A separate audition date and audition material will be required for admittance into the Jazz Ensemble at PSHS.  All trumpet, trombone, saxophone, guitar, piano, bass, and drumset players are highly encouraged to audition for Jazz Ensemble.  Please see the jazz ensemble audition music for specific audition times.  You will be notified when jazz audition music is available.

Jazz Ensemble auditions will be held on May 3 at PSHS from 5-9pm.
